Education in Congo takes 13 years, from the first level of Primary School to the Higher Certificate. Pacte de Modernisation de l’Enseignement Supérieur et Universitaire (PADEM) is the Ministry of Higher Education and Universities’ reform agenda that started in 2003. The objectives of PADEM are to:
- Upgrade professional and teaching careers;
- Reform and modernize the system of higher education and University;
- Make the university a true center of excellence.
Université de Kinshasa
The University of Kinshasa, was one of three universities, along with University of Kisangani and University of Lubumbashi, created following the division of the National University of Zaire. It is located in Kinshasa.
The Free University of the Great Lakes
The Free University of the Great Lakes is a non-governmental academic institution initiated by six Protestant denominations. The university takes pride in training staff by providing them with academic and scientific education of good quality, in close collaboration with local communities.

Université de Mbujimayi
The University of Mbujimayi was founded in 1990 and it is a young community institution that was established in Kasai in, the town of Mbujimayi. Mission: teaching, research and service to the Community.
