A section of ODM politicians and supporters are uneasy with the new presidential campaign secretariat being set up to manage ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s re-election bid.

The choice of University of Nairobi lecturer Dr. Adams Oloo is causing jitters, as skeptics point to the bungling of the 2013 elections which many feel the ODM leader “lost” as a result of the presidential secretariat focusing on non-issues.

Dr. Oloo is rumored to have been among “political strategists” advising Mr. Odinga, who is increasingly using the failed 2013 approach for the August polls.

“Our problem with (Dr.) Oloo is that he is too academic and will give textbook advise to captain (sic) which can’t win this election,” an elected MP was heard complaining.

In the last election, Raila’s presidential secretariat was headed by Nairobi Management Consultant Eliud Owalo. Others were  Mr. Ngunjiri Wambugu (Director, Political Affairs), Dr. Langat  Kipkurui Langat  (Director, Field Operations), Mr. Oduor Ong’wen  (Director of Strategy, Policy and Research), Ms Rosemary Kariuki (Political Mobilisation), Mr. Wafula Buke (Field Manager), Dr Josephine Wandago (Women Affairs) and Mr. David Osiany (Youth Affairs).

Wiper nominated Andrew Mwavya while Ford Kenya brought on board Ken Wanyama as when CORD was formed.

Save for Ngunjiri Wambugu, Dr. Josephine Wandago and Langat Kipkirui Langat, the other persons in the team were either absorbed by ODM or are now aspirants for the various seats under ODM.

Oduor Ong’wen, Wafula Buke and Rosemary Kariuki work at Orange House, the national secretariat of the ODM Party as Executive Director, Director of Political Affairs and Director of Membership respectively.

Ngunjiri Wambugu decamped to TNA, now Jubilee, soon after 2013 elections while Eliud Owalo and David Osiany are vying in Kibera and Rongo constituencies respectively.

Little is known of what became of Mr. Kipkirui and Dr. Wandago.

Currently, Raila’s secretariat based at Capitol Hill is headed by Mr. Andrew Mondoh, a former Permanent Secretary assisted by Raila’s daughter Winnie. Others are Dennis Onyango, Raila’s long time spokesman and Norman Magaya, a legal director.

Raila is said to be setting up his presidential campaign secretariat ahead of NASA which is expected to name a joint presidential candidate in April.
