Famous Comedians Who Owe Their Success to Churchill Raw

On Thursday, October 31 Daniel Ndambuki alias Churchill announced the end of one of the most iconic comedy shows in Kenya.

The announcement came as a shock to many, with Kenyans heading to social media to comment on the end of Churchill Raw that aired on NTV every Thursday.

Kenyans.co.ke news desk conducted research on some of the most popular personalities in comedy who owe their big break to the show.

Top of the list is the self-proclaimed King of comedy himself Eric Omondi.Since his days at Churchill Raw, Eric has shone, not only in Kenya but Africa as well.

On October 19, 2019, he was awarded the Best Comedian in Africa and the African King of Comedy award at the African Entertainment Awards USA (AEAUSA).

Vincent Mwasia Mutua the host of Chipukeezy Show currently airing on TV47 has become a mentor to young and upcoming comedians like his co-host Kartelo.

Chipukeezy is also a director at NACADA, having also worked at Kiss FM and Ebru TV.

Endeared comedian Jasper Muthomi alias MC Jessy was the host of Churchill Raw whose final episode was televised on Thursday, October 31.

The current king of The Real House Helps of Kawangware show Steven Oduor alias DJ Shiti also owes his success to Churchill and the show.

In an appearance in the show after his exit, Shiti narrated how Churchill offered him the platform that introduced him to the world of comedy.

Eunice Mammito is one of the few women that became a household name because they were brave enough to try out the male-dominated field.

The girl from Kibra turned into a woman to admire when she grabbed the opportunity and ran away with it.

Then came a young man, Eddie Butita from Kariobangi who tried his luck with rib-cracking jokes about the intrigues of life in the slums and later took the show by storm.

Butita currently works at Nation Media Group and is a co-host of the Friday show ‘The Trend’ which airs on NTV.

Other comedians who owe their success to Churchill Raw are Eric Omondi’s brother Fred Omondi, Owago Onyiro, Teacher Wanjiku and Sleepy David among others.
