How it works

The sender according to Airtel uses “any intermediary company like World remit, wave, Pegasus etc to send money when abroad to an Airtel user in Uganda.”

When money is sent, the recipient receives the money as a credit on their Airtel Money account/ wallet and they are notified using an SMS. Upon money landing on their mobile wallet, the recipient will get charged the normal withdraw fees when they want to withdraw the money from their Airtel Money account.

If you are in Uganda sending money to Rwanda, Malawi or Tanzania, dial *185# >> 1. Send Money >> 4. International Transfer >> Select country >> Enter recipient number >> Amount >> send.

Airtel’s International Money Transfers comes right after MTN announced a similar money remittance service dubbed Homeland. The Telco currently has over 10M customers with over 650 branches and thousands of agents in Uganda.
